Gotta write

So, you’ll notice the little “progress bars” to the right. It’s crazy fall writing time!

I’m taking a class called “First Draft in 14 Days” at RWA Online. My 14 days started today. Then, a week and a half to recover and on to NaNoWriMo in November.

“Music story” started as last year’s NaNo, but I’ve changed details of the lead character, nearly every secondary character, some plot, some settings and the season. What remains? The hero (whose looks, means and history change, but job and core conflict remain the same) and the theme. So, um, I’m starting over. I promised myself I’d have a draft of this done (not a good draft, just a draft) before the next NaNo swung around. Didn’t realize what a deadline hound I’d be about it.

Not sure what this year’s NaNo will be. Maybe a contemporary romance with travel to Peru. Or something better I dream up this month. Traditionally (5 of the past 6 years), my NaNo novel has been a character-driven, meditative, nearly plotless wonder of wordiness. Maybe in my “spare” week, I can scare up a scene-chewing plot.
