More changes

I’m dropping Nano this year. I’ve done it every year since 2000 (and won 5 times!), but this year it’s more important that I spend time editing and polishing the two manuscripts I have (in the same genre) than stopping the momentum to build another one (in a new genre). Not to mention the ten days this month I will be covering conferences for my day job.

I’m massively disappointed. I already have my official  T-shirt, NaNo coffee mug (half-full with warm coffee right now) and commemorative poster. But I’ve donated, as usual, to its fund to loan laptops to kids and other stuff. And I’ll be a better cheerleader for the others in my forum groups, since I’ll have a little time for once to participate in the forums.

I’ve been taking this online writing course (into month four of six), writing nearly every day, and I’m hot on this new story. Really hot. So gung-ho I’ve written 62,000 words on it in the past three weeks. Which is way more than NaNo’s 50k in a month, so there. If I don’t have the time to make this story sparkle, I want to at least make it solid before Thanksgiving, so I can enter it in the RWA’s big annual contest, the Golden Heart.

The spouse says I’ve graduated to year-round novelist now, from the one-month NaNo novelist I was for so many years. That’s a sweet way to put it.
